More Flexible Phone Numbers for Real-World Sales Work

Update on February 1, 2026

Salespeople rarely work with just one phone number per contact. Mobile, direct, office, old numbers, new numbers. Real life is more complex than a single field can handle.

With this release, we’re introducing a more flexible and structured way to work with phone numbers in Membrain, making it easier to reach the right person, understand context at a glance, and use contact data more effectively across the platform.

Read on to learn how you can use 2 new capabilities to make your life easier.

1. Add multiple phone numbers to a contact

Contacts can now have multiple phone numbers, allowing you to capture all the relevant ways to reach a person, without juggling numbers or overwriting information.

What this means for you:

  • Keep mobile, direct, and any other relevant numbers in one place
  • Preserve context instead of replacing data
  • See which phone number was used for previous calls

2. Use Phone tags for clarity and control

A brand new feature we've introduced is Phone Tags. Each phone number can now be labeled with Phone Tags such as Direct, Mobile, Active, or Do not use (or whatever makes sense for your team). These tags make it easy to understand which number to use and when.

More importantly, Phone Tags are not just visual labels. They can be used for segmentation and filtering, turning phone data into something you can actually work with and analyze.

Practical use cases:

  • Quickly find contacts with an active direct number
  • Exclude “do not use” numbers from outreaches
  • Keep your CRM data clean and up to date easily

Why this matters

As sales organizations grow more complex, single-value contact fields stop being helpful. Multiple phone numbers and clear context for each are the norm, not the exception.

This update makes Membrain better reflect that reality, while also improving data quality and usability across reporting, segmentation, and daily sales work. It’s a foundational step toward making contact data more structured, more actionable, and more aligned with how B2B sales actually happens.
