That's why we're building support for Model Context Protocol (MCP), an emerging open standard that allows AI assistants to securely interact with business systems.

Rather than building for one specific AI model, Membrain is investing in an architecture that lets customers connect their preferred AI tools today and adapt as the AI landscape evolves.

A Phased Rollout

This is a significant platform capability and we'll introduce it in stages.

Future releases will expand these capabilities, allowing AI to assist with actions and workflows inside Membrain while maintaining appropriate security and governance.

What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that enables AI assistants to securely connect to business applications like Membrain.

Instead of manually copying information between systems, your AI can retrieve relevant context directly from Membrain. 

 

Which AI tools will work?

Our goal is to support any AI assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol, including tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, and others as adoption grows.

How will Insight Engine and MCP relate to each other?

MCP complements the Insight Engine by allowing customers to securely access and use Membrain data from their preferred AI environments.

Will my data be used for training AI models?

That depends on which AI assistant you use and the agreement your organization has with its provider.

Some consumer AI services may use conversations to improve their models. However, enterprise plans and API-based services typically include contractual commitments that your data is not used for model training or shared with other customers.

This is not determined by Membrain's MCP integration, but by the terms and conditions of your AI provider. We recommend reviewing your provider's data handling and privacy policies before using AI assistants with sensitive business information.

Membrain only provides secure access to your data based on your existing user permissions. How that data is handled after it reaches your chosen AI service depends on the policies and agreement for that service.

Why is Membrain investing in MCP?

Because we believe the future of AI is open.

Organizations should be free to choose the AI models and tools that best fit their business without losing access to the context and processes that drive revenue execution.

When will it be available?

Customers with the Insight Engine will get first access to the MCP capabilities on August 28, with a rollout to all Membrain customers following a few weeks later.
