Revenue Splits - An Introduction

What Are Revenue Splits?

The Revenue Splits feature in Membrain allows you to distribute deal value among multiple internal stakeholders within a Sales Project. This enables accurate recognition and performance tracking—particularly valuable in team-based or complex sales environments. It supports transparency, collaboration, and fairness, especially where multiple contributors play a role in closing business. Read more on Revenue Splits and Goal Tracking here.

When to Use Revenue Splits

Use Revenue Splits when:

  • Multiple team members contribute to a deal

  • You’re aligning compensation with contribution

  • You want to reinforce a culture of collaborative selling

By clearly defining how revenue is divided, teams are better motivated, and leadership gains deeper insight into performance drivers.

How to Enable Revenue Splits

The Revenue Splits feature is disabled by default. To activate it, navigate to:

  1. System Setup > your Sales Process > Settings

  2. Turn on the Allow Revenue Split toggle and press Save.

  3. Remember to Publish your process in order for the changes you made to get implemented.

Note: You need to enable this feature for each process individually where you want it to apply.

Adding & Editing Revenue Splits

Once Revenue Splits are enabled in the sales process of your choice, you will be able to add and edit revenue splits within each individual sales project. Follow these simple steps.

  1. Go to a Sales Project
  2. Click into the "Value" field
  3. Click on the "+Add Revenue Split" button to access the Revenue Split editor.
Note: If a Revenue Split already exists, you will also see a small icon next to the Value field. Clicking this icon opens the editor as well.

Using the Revenue Split Editor

Once you've opened the Revenue Split editor, you can define how the value is shared across internal team members. The interface is designed to make this process simple while ensuring accuracy and compliance with your organization’s rules.

  • The Sales Project Owner is always included
The Owner is automatically added to the Revenue Split and cannot be removed. However, the owner's portion can be manually set to 0% if needed. Revenue split is also dynamic— if you reassign a Sales Project to a new Owner, they will inherit automatically the previously set share.
Note: If the new Owner was previously listed in the revenue split, their name may appear twice inside the revenue split dialog. This is purely visual and does not affect reporting accuracy.
  • Only Full Users can be assigned revenue
Additional users can be added in the Revenue Split Editor by clicking on the +Add Internal Stakeholder button. Please note that ONLY Full Users (not Lite Users) that are present as internal stakeholders in the sales project are eligible. Ineligible users will appear disabled, along with an explanation indicating why they can't be selected.

  • Assigning percentages
Each user in the Revenue Split must be assigned a percentage between 0% and 100%. You can manually assign specific percentages, or leave a portion unassigned. Any remaining value is automatically distributed evenly among the listed users.

  • Validation before saving
The total split must add up to exactly 100% in order to save your changes. If the split does not meet this requirement, the system will prevent saving until adjustments are made.

Viewing applied Revenue Splits

After saving, you can view the Revenue Split by hovering over the Sales Project's Value field or the split icon next to it. This provides a quick reference without needing to open the editor.
