Membrain's MCP (Model Context Protocol) gives supported AI tools a structured way to interact with your Membrain data and capabilities. It allows AI to find information, create and update records, manage activities and stakeholders, interact with your processes, and more without requiring you to manually navigate between different areas of Membrain.
These same capabilities are available through Membrain's AI Assistant, allowing you to work with your Membrain data using AI directly inside Membrain. Whether you're using the AI Assistant or connecting through MCP, your existing Membrain permissions are respected. AI can only access information and perform actions that you are allowed to.
This article focuses on what you can accomplish with these capabilities. To learn how to enable and connect to MCP, see our Getting Started with Membrain MCP article. To learn how to interact with these capabilities directly inside Membrain, see our article on using the AI Assistant.

The examples throughout this article follow a salesperson through a typical sales workflow, from preparing for an upcoming meeting to capturing what they learn and moving the opportunity forward.
AI can help you understand and manage your own work in Membrain, giving you a useful starting point for deciding what needs your attention.
It can access your calendar, including your meetings from the start of the current week and the following 30 days. Calendar access is limited to your own calendar.
AI can also access your open and recently completed Tasks, as well as your Goals and your current achievement for the active goal period. This makes it possible to bring different parts of your work together when deciding where to focus.
Imagine you're starting your day and want to prepare for what's ahead. You ask Membrain's AI Assistant to review your upcoming meetings and open Tasks.
You notice an important customer meeting later in the day. Rather than stopping there, you can use AI to start digging into the Sales Project behind that meeting and make sure you're prepared for the conversation.
Once you know what needs your attention, AI can help you find and review the information already stored in Membrain.
AI can access information across:
This includes basic record information as well as custom fields, giving AI the Membrain context it needs to answer questions about your pipeline, customers, and projects.
AI also supports filtering and sorting across supported properties and custom fields. This means you can ask for specific subsets of information rather than retrieving everything first.
For example, you could ask for Sales Projects closing within a certain period, find projects belonging to a particular Process or Owner, or sort records using relevant project information.
Building on the meeting you identified earlier, you can ask Membrain's AI Assistant to find the associated Sales Project and help you review the information that's already been captured.
You might review the Project's Value, Closing Date, current Stage, stakeholders, or other relevant fields before the meeting. This gives you a clearer picture of where the opportunity stands without having to manually work your way through the Project.
During the meeting, you learn some new information. That's where AI can move from helping you understand your data to helping you capture it.
AI can create new:
The information required depends on the type of record being created. For Projects, for example, a Process must be provided, and an Owner may also be required. A Company is required for Project types other than Flows, where the requirement depends on the Flow Process.
During your meeting, the customer introduces you to someone who hasn't previously been captured in Membrain. You can ask Membrain's AI Assistant to create a new Contact using the information you've been given.
Perhaps the conversation also uncovers a separate opportunity that should be tracked independently. You could ask Membrain's AI Assistant to create the appropriate Sales Project and provide the Process, Company, Owner, and other required information.
Now that the records exist, you can start adding what you've learned to them.
AI can update existing Companies, Contacts, and Projects, making it easier to keep Membrain aligned with what you're learning during the sales process.
For Companies, supported standard fields include Name, Website, and LinkedIn. For Contacts, this includes Name, LinkedIn, Phone, Email, and Title.
AI can also update key information across different Project types. Depending on the type of Project, this can include information such as:
Project data available to AI also includes relevant outcome information, such as reasons and descriptions associated with won, archived, or disqualified records.
In addition to standard fields, AI supports updating the following custom field types:
The exact information that can be updated depends on the record and field involved.
As your meeting continues, you learn that the opportunity is larger than originally expected and that the customer's buying timeline has changed.
You can ask Membrain's AI Assistant to update the Sales Project's Value and Closing Date with the new information. You could also update supported custom fields based on other details uncovered during the conversation.
You've now captured the Project information, but you've also learned more about the people involved.
AI can help maintain the stakeholders involved in a Project, allowing you to capture not just who is involved but what you've learned about their role in the decision.
A Contact can be added to a Project in a required Stakeholder Role. When doing so, AI can also set the stakeholder's Attitude, Influence, and Notes.
For Contacts who are already stakeholders in the Project, AI can update their Role, Attitude, Influence, and Notes.
This makes it easier to keep the buying group and other important relationships current as you learn more about the people involved in a Project.
The new Contact you met turns out to be an important decision maker. You also learn that they're highly influential and currently positive about moving forward.
You can ask Membrain's AI Assistant to add the Contact as a stakeholder on the Sales Project, assign the appropriate Stakeholder Role, and capture their Attitude, Influence, and any useful Notes.
With the Project and stakeholders updated, the next step is making sure the follow-up actually happens.
AI can create Tasks and Notes and connect them to the appropriate Project, Company, or Contact.
When creating an Activity, the current Membrain user is automatically set as the Organizer. You can provide the contents of the Activity and, if required, specify an Activity Type.
When creating a Task, you can also provide a Deadline. If no Deadline is provided, the Task is created without one. A Task can optionally be created in an already completed state.
Activity custom fields can also be populated when creating the Activity. Supported types include:
AI can also complete an existing Task. The Task can be accessed from a Project or from your Task list, but you can only complete Tasks that you own.
Currently, participants cannot be specified when creating an Activity through AI.
At the end of your meeting, you agree to send additional information to the new stakeholder by Friday.
You can ask Membrain's AI Assistant to create a Task connected to the Sales Project, include the appropriate follow-up details, and give it a Friday Deadline. You could also create a Note to capture important context from the conversation that should remain available to the rest of the team.
When you've completed the follow-up, you can ask Membrain's AI Assistant to complete the Task for you.
With the work from the meeting captured, you can also make sure the Project's Process reflects the progress you've made.
AI can interact with the Process itself, helping you keep a Project moving forward as work is completed.
It can set the Stage of a Project and complete eligible Steps within the Process. A Step can only be completed by AI if it has no tools attached to it or if it uses the Checkbox tool. To complete a Step, AI uses the specific Project and the name of the Step that should be completed.
AI can also only see and interact with Process Steps that are visible to the current user. This means that both visibility and Step configuration determine whether AI can interact with a particular Step.
Your meeting successfully completed the discovery work required at the current point in your sales process.
After updating the Project and creating your follow-up activities, you can ask Membrain's AI Assistant to complete the relevant discovery Step, provided that Step has no tools attached or uses the Checkbox tool. If the Project is ready to progress, you can also ask Membrain's AI Assistant to move it to the appropriate Stage.
The Project now reflects what happened in the meeting. Before your next conversation, you can use AI to improve the information you have about the people and company involved.
AI can trigger enrichment for a Company or Contact, helping you fill in missing information without having to manually research and update the record.
When the AI Assistant is opened with a Contact as its context, it can also recommend enriching the Contact with information like their phone number where appropriate.
Your Membrain permissions still apply when enrichment is triggered. You must have the appropriate permissions to enrich the Company or Contact.
Before following up with the new stakeholder you added earlier, you notice that their Contact record contains very little information.
You can ask Membrain's AI Assistant to enrich the Contact and, when needed, request phone number information as well. This gives you a more complete picture before your next interaction and leaves better information in Membrain for everyone else working on the Project.
What started as checking your schedule has now taken you through preparing for a meeting, reviewing a Project, capturing new information, updating stakeholders, planning follow-up, progressing your Process, and preparing for the next interaction, all using the same AI capabilities.
These capabilities are designed to give AI useful access to Membrain while still respecting the access and permissions of the person using it. What AI can see and change therefore depends on what you have permission to access within Membrain.
When accessing these capabilities through MCP, there is a limit of 1,000 tool calls per hour. When using the Free version, the limit is 100 LLM calls per hour.
There are also some capability-specific limitations, such as the restrictions around Flow creation, Contacts with multiple Stakeholder Roles, Activity participants, and hidden Process Steps described throughout this article.
Whether you're working through Membrain's AI Assistant or MCP, these capabilities allow you to move from understanding what's happening to taking action on it. Instead of treating AI as a separate place to ask questions, you can use it alongside the data, activities, people, and Processes that already make up your workflow in Membrain.
From north to south, east to west, Membrain has thousands of happy clients all over the world.
